Our Pastors

Rev0576Rev Michael Henderson

I was born in a small town in Tennessee called Alcoa. I was raised by God fearing parents, Cecil and Freddy Henderson who raised five children and they believed going to church wasn’t optional.

God has blessed me with an incredible gift by the name of Patricia Henderson, whom I proudly call my wife. We are the proud parents of three wonderful children, Sherrie Smith who is married to Rev. Kelvin Smith, a son Adrian, and Taja my youngest daughter.

They are, praise God college graduates, but more than that, they too are also educated in the knowledge and love of God and they serve him in Spirit and in Truth. We’re also blessed to have two wonderful and adorable grandchildren Robyn and Kelvin Jr.

I have an A.A. degree from the College of San Mateo; I completed four years at the University of San Jose with a Single subject Teaching Credential when I received a calling from God to preach this “Good News of the Gospel of Christ.
I graduated Suma Cum laude at William and Jessup University and received a degree in Christian Ethics and Leadership.

I currently Pastor First African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, located on 20th and San Fernando St. in San Jose. But most of all, I am glad to be called a child of the living God, who is definitely the author and finisher of my life.

A Message from Our Pastor

Giving honor to God from whom all blessings flow!

It has been an honor and a privilege for my family and me to serve this great church for nearly sixteen years.

First Church San Jose has labored in God’s vineyard for an incredible 150 years. Through the storms and the rain, heartache and pain, from the mountaintop and through many valley experiences, but through it all God has yet sustained this great historic church.

The prophet Isaiah had First Church in mind when he wrote this remarkable and prophetic scripture: “Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength, they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get weary, they will walk and not faint.”

We extend an open invitation to you to visit our Church whenever you can. If you are without a church home, we extend a sincere invitation for you to join the First Church Family. Our Programs, activities, and ministries are designed to encompass persons of all ages.

May God Continue to Bless this Magnificent Church!

Reverend Michael Henderson
